Pound those streets, save this planet
Wednesday 19th September 2007
It's International 'In Town Without My Car' day this Saturday
(22nd September), with activities and events happening worldwide
- including Wigan.
Supported by local cycling group Wigan Wheelers, council
travel experts will be in town from 10am-4pm, giving people
advice on travel choices - and listening to local concerns
and the big issues at street level.
The event aims to encourage motorists to get to work by other
means. And anybody who has ever wondered what they're missing
whilst sat in the car can register for a real treat in the
form of a free walking tour of the town centre with specialist
Blue Badge guides.
James Noakes, Wigan Council's sustainable travel officer
says: "We all need to play our part in tackling carbon
emissions and transport is a key area. Come along for free
advice and information about making better choices. And we
want to hear from you, too - ask about what the council can
do and tell us how we can help.
"There'll be free walking tours which will allow people
to see far more than when they are at the wheel. It promises
to be a great event."
'In Town Without My Car' runs from 10am until 4pm in Wigan
town centre. |
