Continental…and beyond!
The next continental market in Wigan town centre promises
to be magnifique!
A European delight awaits shoppers in the Market Place between
Wednesday March 4 and Saturday March 7, when a stunning array
of foods, drinks and products will be showcased.
There will be unique and beautifully crafted gifts, including
eye catching jewellery; pretty pashminas; aromatic perfumes;
and ornate mirrors. And taste buds will be excited by a selection
of exotic foods including French cheeses, nuts, dried fruits,
saucissons, pates and crépes.
On Saturday March 7, the market will be going global when
fair trade traders from Africa and Latin America will be selling
their wares. Coffee from Ethiopia and fruit from Columbia
are just some of the more exotic goods that will be available
on the day.
These traders are part of a network that help millions of
farmers, workers and their families to get a better deal,
allowing them to invest in their own communities. Local schools
have been involved in promoting fair trade in Wigan, and there
will be lively activities during the continental market too.
Cllr David Molyneux, deputy leader of Wigan Council, says:
"Supporting your local town centres is especially important
at present, and there’s extra incentive to come with
all the tastes and delights of the continental market to enjoy."
