Wigan's Continental Christmas
Wigan Town Centre will be offering Christmas shopping with
a difference this year with the arrival of the continental
market.
Between Thursday 20 and Sunday 23 December, Standishgate
and Market Place will be flush with the aromas of freshly
cooked spiced meats and the delicate odours of olives, cheeses,
breads and perfumes. The air will be filled with cries of
"Bonne Natalé" and "Joyeux Noël".
And the stalls will be bursting with fresh produce and goods
from all over the continent including fashions from France,
cheese from Holland, chocolates from Belgium, meats from Corsica,
amber jewellery from Poland and exotic dried fruit and nuts
from Turkey.
Cllr John O'Neill, Cabinet Champion for Regeneration and
Deputy Leader of Wigan Council said: "These kinds of
markets are very popular at Christmas time and I am pleased
that Wigan is able to provide a Continental market for our
Christmas shoppers.
"The continental market will give people the opportunity
to buy unusual Christmas gifts and stock up on all kinds of
exotic food and drink for over the Christmas period.
"We have acknowledged that people are looking for a
more unique shopping experience, especially at Christmas time
and I am really pleased that Wigan is able to offer that."
The market will be open between 8.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. each
day and close around 5 p.m. / 5.30 p.m.
